Welkom: Youth Chamber of Commerce and Industry South Africa (Free State); YCCISAFS, held a media briefing on the 30th August 2017 at Ferdie Meyer Hall, Welkom.

The media briefing platform was used to outline the upcoming plans of the YCCISAFS of holding the 03rd edition of the Free State Youth Entrepreneurship Awards which will be held in Welkom during the Tourism Month of 2017 on the 22nd September at Goldfields Casino and Entertainment Centre. The Free State Youth Entrepreneurship Awards are a programme coordinated by the Chamber in line with the Youth Enterprise Development Strategy (YEDS, 2013 – 2023). A strategy of government that was launched in 2013 to spell out how the government shall support youth enterprises in the country.

The 03rd Annual Free State Youth Entrepreneurship Awards 2017 will see the current Free State Youth Entrepreneur of the year; Nyakallo “Ba2cada” Leine, handing over the Crown to the new Free State Youth Entrepreneur who will carry it till 2018, when the new one will be crowned.

With the current pressing challenges facing our economy in the Free State province with our economy at negative growth and our unemployment rate at all-time high; we hope that these awards will inspire them to commit themselves to their business in order build sustainable industrial scale businesses that will assist government with stubborn challenges such as unemployment and other challenges emanating from the problem of the economy that is not growing.

The province is still trailing behind in regards to mainstreaming of youth, women and people with disability and the Chamber is working across the clock to ensure that the mainstreaming agenda is returned to the provinces critical decision making as part of the overall Youth Enterprise Development agenda as enshrined in different government policies and legal frameworks such as Youth Employment Accord, Integrated Youth Development Strategy, as well as the Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment Amendment Act.

Nominations of the awards are open for youth in business between the ages of 18 and 35 years and the public is encouraged to nominate deserving youth be crowned the best and will close on the “31st August 2017” (may be extended by a week) and nominations forms are available across the province in all the municipal offices as well as Department of Small Business Development’s Services Centres, as well as all SEDA regional offices and Regional Coordinators of the Chamber.
