Goedemoed: Free State SAPS Provincial Detectives task team investigation led to the arrest of a 49-year-old suspended Correctional Services official, Mojalefa Letele.
Letele was arrested on Thursday, 06 February 2020 and appeared in the Rouxville Magistrate court yesterday, 07 February 2020 for murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The case was postponed to the 27 February 2020 for formal bail application and the suspect remains in custody.
This follows an incident that occurred on the 29 March 2019; at Goedemoed Correctional Centre, where a 35-year-old female victim, Nomsa Joyce Stuurman was fatally stabbed and her colleague was also stabbed and raped while held hostage by a suspect who is also an inmate.
The incident happened while both victims were on duty.
The then 37-year-old suspect, Jongikhaya Samsam who was already serving two life terms, was arrested after Free State SAPS tactical response team forced entry and rescued the two hostages. During his court appearance, Samsam implicated the Correctional Services official, Mojalefa Letele.
He told the court how he was coerced to murder and rape the victims by Letele. Samsam was sentenced by Bloemfontein High Court on 31 October 2019 to two life terms for murder, rape and kidnapping of Correctional Service Officials.
The investigation into the involvement of Letele on the murder and rape Correctional Centre cases continues.
