Smithfield: On 21 November 2017, Smithfield police received information through young boys of between 7 and 10 years that their friend is not coming out of the water after they had a swim at Smithfield Dam.
Police quickly rushed to the said Dam, only to find the clothes of a ten year old next to the river.
Police divers were alerted. When they arrived at the scene, within minutes, the lifeless body was retrieved out of the water. He was certified dead on the scene by Health Officials. Inquest docket has been opened for investigation.
Cluster Commander Colonel Ngoma Guma is urging parents to know their child’s whereabouts as we enter the school’s recess. The children have plenty of time at their disposal and they take advantage of it. Traditional or sports activities can keep them busy.
