Welkom: Police are looking for two African male suspects after an elderly woman was robbed at Riebeeckstad ATM. No arrest has been made yet and the police are appealing to the community to help in tracing these suspects.

On the 10 January 2020, the victim approached the ATM to withdraw money. There was a short; with height, African male next to the ATM who used the machine before her. He pretended that he wanted his receipt from the machine and he took the receipt and then grabbed her bank card.

She asked for her card and he responded that her bank card was inside the machine. The second suspect; wearing a red t-shirt, approached her and said the victim can procced to use the machine by using her pin number. But she refused and instantly tried to block her card from being misused.

But before she can even finish to block the bank card, she received SMSes that cash amounts to R2 000 had been withdrawn. The second R2 000 was withdrawn at Mc Lean ATM, R1 720 at McLean Liquor store [to buy liquor], R1 880 and R860-01. The total cash stolen from the victim amounts to R8 460 from her bank account.

Residents are warned to be more careful when using any ATM. Always to be alert when using the ATM by ensuring that you are alone at the ATM and to never accept help from the strangers.Trust your instincts, if you suspect anybody who is in front of you, do not use that machine. Go to another one where you are alone.
