Bloemfontein: Free State Cricket Union aims to break the Guinness World Record by hosting the largest bowls event at Mangaung Oval.

The Ewie Cronje Bowls Event is set to take place on 15 and 16 November 2019 at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein.

The event is named after the former President of Free State Cricket Union and father to the legendary Hansie Cronje, Ewie Cronje. “The idea of hosting this bowls event was birthed by Ewie Cronje, and with his support and that of Bowls South Africa we decided to host a record attempt event”, commented Marketing and Events Manager of Free State Cricket Marina van der Walt.

“The aim of the event is to set-up a record for the most participants to play lawn bowls at once. Bloemfontein, being the heart of Free State boasts with strong sporting history and with a flagship event such as this our expectation is to raise the profile of sports within our region and create powerful associations through corporate involvement”, commented van der Walt.

“The money raised from this event will go towards the development of sports within our region and I would urge different corporates to enter and join us for a fun weekend.” concluded Marina.

The entry fee to the event is R3000 for teams of 4. The entry fee includes dinner for Friday, 15 November and spitbraai for Saturday 16 November as well as entertainment for both days. People who are registered with an official Bowls Club will receive a 30% discount on an entry fee.
