Welkom: The Free State Department Of Education (DOE), has suspended Lephola Secondary School’s principal; Abel Motseki. This comes after he allegedly assaulted a teacher at the School in Thabong, Welkom.

The details surrounding an alleged assault on a teacher by a school principal in Welkom shed more light on Monday, as members of the Education Department visited the school.

This came as a photo of a Lephola Secondary School teacher; covered in blood, had gone viral on social media. The caption of the photo alleges the teacher was assaulted by the Welkom school’s principal in his office.

The assault allegedly happened during an argument between the two on Friday. Teaching was disrupted at several schools in the area as learners demanded that the principal step down. Roads were barricaded with stones.

Learners from various Schools in Thabong; including Learners’ representatives, disrupted classes. Stones were thrown to the school’s doors, windows and gates were broken into in the process.

Police were called to the scene to calm the situation are monitoring the situation.
