Thabong, Welkom: Thabong police have opened an inquest docket to further investigate the death of a two year old baby girl who fell into a drain at Jantoor Hostel in Thabong, on Sunday 28 July 2019.
It is alleged that the toddler was playing with her friends when she fell in the 1meter drain and drowned. Her father rushed her to hospital in a private vehicle and was declared dead on arrival.
Thabong police urge parents to know where their children are playing and with who, at all times. It is pivotal for children of a tender age to be under the supervision of adults at all times to ensure that they are safe.
In another incident, a 36 year old woman Moselantja Mokhetsing, burnt to death at her home in Thabong on Saturday 27 July 2019. According to her 40 year old partner Mosebetsi Mosia, he was asleep and was awakened by smoke. It is alleged that he noticed that his wife Moselantja Mokhetsing, was sitting in the bedroom next to the heater fast asleep.
Mosia alleges that he made several attempts to rescue his wife. He even tried to open the kitchen door but the house was already consumed by fire and he escaped through corrugated iron sheets gap and went to seek for help.
Thabong police, fire brigades and Emergency Services, were summoned to the scene. However, the woman did not survive the fire as she burnt to death.
An inquest docket was registered for further investigation.
