Thohoyandou: Luc Eymael’s appointment as head coach of Black Leopards reaped an immediate reward as the club registered their first home win of the season with a 1-0 Absa Premiership victory over Bloemfontein Celtic at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Mwape Musonda returned to scoring form as Lidoda Duvha move up to 12th place on the log standings, four points clear of the relegation zone. Defeat leaves Siwelele in ninth.
Leopards opened the scoring after just nine minutes as Musonda pounced on a flick into the area by Thuso Phala before firing home a left-footed finish for his first goal of the season.
Last season’s golden boot winner should’ve doubled his team’s advantage soon after, but with the goal at his mercy the Zambia international could only succeed in scuffing his attempt hopelessly wide.
He was almost made to rue the missed chance as Celtic were awarded a penalty kick in the 40th minute, but Ronald Pfumbidzai was denied by Jonas Mendes in the Leopards goal.
The shot-stopper continued to deny Phunya Sele Sele after the break as the hosts ultimately held on for a hard-fought win.
