Bethlehem: A 46-year-old man is appeared in Bethlehem Magistrate court today on allegations of raping his wife. He is due to appear again on Tuesday the18 February 2020 for formal bail application.
According to allegations suspect found his wife sleeping at their place in the evening of Saturday 8 February and plainly told her that he’s going to rape her and which he ultimately did. After the rape ordeal suspect assaulted the victim and left her seriously injured with bruises on her face.
He was later arrested by members of Bethlehem Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) and is expected to appear soon in court for the charges of rape and assault with an intention to cause a grievous bodily harm.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane welcomed the arrest and says a sexual activity that has no consent is rape irrespective of the relationship of the involved parties.
“We appeal to community members to always report incidents of domestic violence as soon as possible as such incidents often leads to unnecessary deaths.” concluded Lieutenant General; Baile Motswenyane.
