Bethlehem: A 34-year-old man; Nhlanhla Ntsingila, appeared before the magistrate on Thursday; 23 January 2020, in the Bethlehem Court on a charge of housebreaking and theft.

He is expected to appear again on Wednesday; 29 January 2020 for a bail application. It is alleged that this was after neighbours of the victim in Bohlokong caught a suspect and handed him to the police.

Nhlanhla was seen by a neighbour while breaking into the house whose owner was at work at that time and he came out with groceries. The neighbour blew the whistle, called other community members who assisted to do citizen arrest and handed the suspect over to the police.

Nhlanhla was caught with property that he failed to account for. The incident happened on Monday 20 January 2020. The owner came and identified his property and it was handed over to her.

Free State Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane said everyone who is in conflict with the law will face the full might of the law.

“We however we do not encourage mob justice and we therefore appeal to people to refrain from taking law into their own hands.” said Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane.
