Bethulie: Bloemfontein High Court, sitting in Bethulie, sentenced three murder accused, Tshepo Sebati (40), Sakhile Nqumashe (22) and Motsamai Zenzo (24) to life imprisonment on the 04 March 2020 for murder, Robbery and kidnapping.
On Tuesday, 25 February 2019, the two accused, Sakhile and Motsamai went to the deceased’s house. On arrival, they tied the grandmother up with a rope on the hands and closed her mouth and waited for the deceased to arrive.
When the 25 year old woman, the deceased came back from dropping her child at a crèche, they attacked her and strangled her to death. This happened in front of her grandmother.
They then fled the scene on foot and were later picked-up by a white Bakkie. It was discovered during trial that one of the accused, Tshepo Sebati was the ex-boyfriend of the victim and he said he will not allow the deceased to have another boyfriend.
He then hired the two accused, Sakhile and Motsamai to kill the deceased. He then drove them with his bakkie to the deceased’s parental home and came back after the commission of crime to fetch them.
All the three accused were sentenced as follows:
- On Count 1, murder, the accused was sentenced to life in prison;
- On Count 2, Robbery aggravated, the accused were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment; and
- On Count 3, kidnapping, the accused were sentenced to 5 years imprisonment.
All the charges will run concurrently.
