Bloemfontein: Three accused, Bongani Ngxowa (23), Seqebo Lawrence Moeketsi (28) and Phepheng Motlalepule (27) were found guilty for robbery and murder.
They were sentenced by the Bloemfontein Magistrate court as follows:
- Bongani was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment,
- Moeketsi to 18 years imprisonment, and
- Motlalepule was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.
It was discovered during trial that on the 24 March 2018, a 26-years-old victim, Thabo Sylvester was robbed of his cellphone and shoes before he was fatally stabbed.
The incident happened near a well-known tavern in the Central Business District (CBD). Police were notified. A case of murder and robbery was registered at Parkweg SAPS and was assigned to Detective Constable Thabo Motlohi.
Following the hard work done by the investigating officer; Motlohi who left no stone unturned during his investigation while conforming to his Constitutional mandate as reflected in the section 205 which is to prevent ,combat and investigate crime, Bongani was arrested in April and the other two accused were arrested in June.
They remained in custody until they were sentenced.

This is part of SAPS to protect and secure the inhabitants of the Republic and their property.” said his immediate commander Lt. Col. James Kibinye.
