Senekal: The Free State provincial government under the leadership of Premier Sisi Ntombela, officially launched transport month in Matwabeng; Senekal, today.

The Transport month campaign is aimed at advancing public safety initiatives focused on law enforcement and integrated transport systems. The campaign will also highlight career opportunities in the transport industry.

In a programme led by Police Roads and Transport MEC. Honourable Sam Mashinini, the province officially launched a state of the art Traffic Control Centre on the N5 road from Senekal.

The control centre is one of two control centres upgraded in partnership with SANRAL to assist is in curbing extensive overloading of trucks which has resulted in deterioration of the provincial road network.

The centre has been upgraded to a more technologically advanced weight bridge which adherence to road laws.

Vehicles are diverted to be weighed on static scales at the traffic centre for mass certification and in case of overloading, there will be prosecution.

The completion of this one of a kind economic stimulant is consistent with the Department of Police’s Budget vote speech. Its rigorous implementation plan has seen this economic infrastructure project completed within a year from its commencement.
