Welkom: On the 29 November 2017, Welkom Cluster assembled together in a two-way celebration held in Welkom club. They bid farewell to Lieutenant Colonel Lesenyeho, and to also celebrate their End-year function.
This blissful gesture was officially opened with a scripture reading and prayer by Reverend Vinger, while Colonel Barry Senatla welcome everyone attended and introduced all guests invited. Colonel Disebo Cezula, the Station Commander of Odendaalsrus addressed the gathering about the purpose of the event. She mentioned that its two events that is year-end function Welkom Cluster and farewell of Lt Col. Lesenyeho.
Lt Col. Rabusuntu Lesenyeho served the SAPS with pride and dignity and ensured that all South African citizens are and feel safe for the past 36 years. He served around various Stations like Bultfontein, Hennenman, Bothaville and Welkom Cluster office.
The Regional Manager of Bidvest Protea Coin, Mr Ennie van Rensburg, graced the event and honoured the following members with certificates for a job well done. During an incident where a security officer was burnt inside the armoured security vehicle and there was also a shoot-out between illegal miners and security officers.
Warrant Officer Liezel Scheepers of Local Criminal Record Centre [LCRC], Warrant Officer Anton Mynhardt of Welkom K9 unit and Warrant Officer Gerome Claassen of Welkom Cluster Task Team.
A certificate of extreme bravery was handed over to Captain Eben Engelbreght who served at Welkom Cluster Visible Policing, who was shot by illegal miners when following up information in the mining environment. Five operations were done to this member who really escaped death.
Lt Col. Lesenyeho was showered with gifts for serving SAPS with excellence and his wife Chesiwe was given flowers as a token of appreciation.
The Cluster Commander of Thabong, Maj Gen. Apaphia Modise rendered a message of support. She reminded the gathering that they attended the same junior course and knew the retiring Colonel, as a dedicated, committed who served his clients with excellence.
“You have been a real asset to the SAPS, in your career, you never had any criminal offence, he jokingly said, “I therefore urge you to not be involved in any business venture, but to rest, as you deserve and need it.” said the Cluster Commander of Welkom, Maj Gen. Lerato Molale.
In his reply speech, Colonel Rabusuntu Lesenyeho, thanked Major Generals Molale and Modise for their guidance in his career and also thanked his wife Chesiwe who was part of this emotional and gigantic event, for being patient and prayed for him while serving citizens of South Africa. He further mentioned it is really unbelievable that he has finished his race within the Police Service and he thanked the Lord Almighty for his grace to complete 36 years’ service.
Colonel Didi Ramoolla conducted the vote of thanks to all who graced the event, especially the retired Major General Louis Gibson and his wife Irene, who was the former Area Commissioner of the Northern Free State and was transferred to become the Deputy Provincial Commissioner in Kwazulu Natal.
