Bloemfontein: A total number of 278 suspects will appear in various Magistrates’ court following a weekly operation that was held between 02 and 08 June 2021.
The SAPS together with SANDF; National and Provincial Traffic; Road Traffic Cooperation; Private Security; DOH; DHA; DOJ; and Sars, conducted several roadblocks, monitoring and stop and search operations, tracing wanted suspects in a quest to bring down the volumes of serious and violent crime in the Province, thereby ensuring a safe and secure winter seasons.
Amongst the nabbed suspects, 139 were arrested for murder, attempted murder, rape, assault GBH, assault common and sexual offences.
2 suspects were arrested for robbery while a combined number of 55 property related suspects were also detained, including 33 for liquor related crimes, while 49 suspects were arrested on drug related charges.
They will all appear on different dates in different magistrate’s courts. Further investigations will also be conducted to establish possible linkage of the suspects to other crimes.
During this crime combating clamp down operation, 1 firearm including 8 ammunition and 10 dangerous weapons were confiscated. These firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if they were not used in the commission of other crimes and 4 stolen vehicles were also recovered.
A total number 838, J534 fines were issued. Drugs and liquor was also amongst the confiscated products of the week.
“The removal of one illegal firearm from the hands of the criminals and confiscation of drugs from these drug lords will save many lives.” said Provincial Commissioner of the Free State; Liutenant General Baile Motswenyane.
