Bloemfontein: Henry Samuel Hewitt (51) and his company Pavati Trading (Pty) Ltd, appeared before the Bloemfontein Regional Court on Thursday; 02 December 2021. He was convicted and sentenced for contravening the Tax Administration Act.

A Preliminary probe by the South African Revenue Services (SARS), uncovered Hewitt’ s  fraudulent activities that cost the South Africa Revenue Services (SARS) in excess of more than R2 million between the period of 2016 and 2020.

The matter was reported to the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team based in Bloemfontein. Hewitt was served with summons on 24 May 2021. He appeared in court on several occasion culminating in his recent conviction.

The court sentenced Hewitt to eight (8) years imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years  on condition that he repay SARS the amount of R2 million on a monthly instalment of R30 000 until the whole amount is fully paid. The company was fined R3 million, wholly suspended for five years.
