Bloemfontein: The Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday granted African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashule R200 000 bail.
The National Prosecuting Authority did not oppose bail and Magashule’s lawyers submitted affidavit on why he should be granted.
Magistrate granted bail with some conditions and he was satisfied that there is no likelihood that Magashule will commit any schedule 1 offence or attempt to influence any witnesses.
Magashule has been charged with 21 counts of fraud, corruption and money laundering. The Secretary General handed himself over to the Hawks ahead of his court appearance on corruption charges.
He will return to court in February 2021.
ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule is one of eight accused in the case involving a R255 million contract to replace asbestos roofing on homes in the Free State.
