Bloemfontein: Swift response by police led to the arrest of three (3) suspects for hijacking a foreign business man in Mangaung, shortly after the commission of the crime.
Parkweg Police tracing unit together with K9 Unit, Flying Squad and Highway Patrol reacted on information about a White Toyota Hilux that was hijacked in Khayelitsha location, Mangaung.
Members spread themselves throughout Mangaung and whilst on patrol, a silver Polo VW sedan that was allegedly used by suspects, was spotted and the police tried to stop it.
The suspects fled and a chase ensued through streets of Mangaung until suspects entered into an open garage at a house in Mangaung and the police blocked them in. Whilst searching the suspect`s vehicle, members found a firearm allegedly used in the hijacking and cellphones possibly belonging to the victim of the hijacked Toyota.
The hijacked vehicle was found parked neatly at East End Industrial area. The three suspects aged 29, 34 and 40 were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm, hijacking, possession of suspected stolen vehicle and possession of stolen goods.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects is linked to a number of hijackings in Mangaung area. The suspects will appear in court soon.
“Criminals should be warned that our multi-disciplinary enforcement agencies are working tirelessly during this period to ensure that citizens enjoy their well-deserved holidays and hard earned cash, and will not allow criminals to spoil this jolly season. Zizojika Izinto- we will continue to turn the tide against crime.” said acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Solly Lesia.
