An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in.

Welcome to the New Year, 2018. We said goodbye to the year2017 and welcomed the year 2018. We bided goodbye to the past year while ushering in the new.

When you were doing so, were you in a first group of people who waited in baited breath and in anticipation to see that you see and welcome the New Year in? Leaving behind with it the heartache, disappointments, unfulfilled promises, and so on. This first group ushered the New Year with renewed vows, aspirations, goals, dreams and resolutions that will bear positive fruits. Or rather, you were part of the second group of people who were riding in the bandwagon of New Year celebrations who did not notice or knew the year is ending; or said it happens every year and so what; or who waited for celebrations so as to see the old year leaves; or nothing changed last year and will also be the same this new year. This second group only see evil prevailing over good and have lost hope in things changing.

Then, there is a saying that: “”An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.” by Bill Vaughn.

An optimist is a person who tends to be hopeful and confident about the future or the success of something. People in the first group, mentioned above, are optimist. A pessimist is a person who tends to see the worst aspect of things or believe that the worst will happen. People in the second group, mentioned above, are pessimist.

Like what Sarah Ban Breathnach said; “New Year’s Day. A fresh start. A new chapter in life waiting to be written. New questions to be asked, embraced, and loved. Answers to be discovered and then lived in this transformative year of delight and self-discovery. Today carve out a quiet interlude for yourself in which to dream, pen in hand. Only dreams give birth to change.”

I hope this year (on New Year’s Eve), you made resolutions that you would like to keep. I hope that this year, you will make mistakes because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing people around  and changing your world. You will be doing things you have never done before, and more importantly, you will doing something. Challenge your thinking, beliefs and by so doing stretch your imaginations, dreams and goals.

We all get the exact same 365 days in a year. The only difference is what we do with them. After all it is your CHOICE. You choose either to be happy or sad. I choose to be HAPPY.
