Welkom: A 65 year old woman was robbed a total of R9000.00 by three African women at Checkers shop; Ararat road; Welkom, claiming to be Checkers staff members.
Residents are warned to be careful of people volunteering to assist them and are advised to report them immediately to uniform staff or the managers.
The incident occurred on 01 July 2019. The victim was approached by 3 African females who pretended to be Checkers workers. The suspects told the victim that she is lucky and qualifies for pensioner’s card and they are going to assist her in getting the card to get extra discounts.
One of suspects took the victim’s hand bag while they were walking with her inside the shop and was told to go to a certain counter, where she will find the other suspect and get her bag.
The suspects then left the victim inside the shop and left. The victim then went to the counter to check for the lady that took her bag and found out that they were all gone. The security guard also tried to look for the suspects and they were nowhere to be found.
The victim’s bag contained bank card, cellphone, cash and other items. The suspects further used the victim’s bank cark to withdraw R5000.00 from her account, and R4000.00 worth of gift cards were bought at Clicks, Goldfields Mall, Welkom.
A case of common robbery was registered for further investigation.
