Welkom: Welkom Police are looking for an African male after a young man was robbed at knife point. The suspect was driving a black VW GTI, with unknown registrations.
On the 18 January 2019, a 24 year old complaint was with his friend waiting for a taxi in Constantia road; Reitzpark; Welkom. While waiting, a black VW GTI stopped in front of them and the complainant told the driver that he was going to Hennenman. The suspect agreed to take him to Hennenman. The passenger paid R150 cash while the driver requested R200.
He drove past Riebeeckstad towards Hennenman, then suddenly the driver stopped and parked under the trees beside the road. He took out a knife, pointed at the complainant and searched him. He took undisclosed amount of cash, HAFURU cell phone valued at R8000, Nokia cell phone valued at R180, brown wallet with bank cards, identity document, jersey, silver laptop valued at R2500 and laptop bag valued at R300.
No arrests have been made yet and the police are still looking for the suspect. Residents are sternly warned not to climb into any unmarked car. A taxi must be clearly marked and must have a registration numbers. Before getting into a taxi, make sure that you write down the registrations of the car.
