Welkom: Two Eskom security officers were allegedly attacked at gun point while on duty, robbed off their cellphones and had their hands tied behind their back.
The attackers further went into Eskom Duiker CNC store room and stole copper cable weighing 228 kg.
The incident occurred on Friday 8 November 2019 at Eskom Duiker CNC. One of the security officers was assaulted by the attackers and was later rushed to the hospital. A case of business robbery and assault was registered at Welkom Police Station.
An intelligence driven operation was conducted on 9 November 2019 with Welkom Cluster task team. SAPS members swiftly gathered information and positively traced the stolen copper cable at a certain address in Thabong.
Upon arrival at the address in Thabong, the task team members searched the house and the vehicle, where they found a copper cable tracing to the one stolen at Eskom Duiker weighing 228 kg worth an estimated street value of R22 960.00.
A 28 year old African male and a 26 year old African female were arrested for illegal possession of copper cable and one cellphone was seized and booked in at the Police Station. The copper cable was handed back to the rightful owner (Eskom) and the suspects will appear in Welkom Magistrates court on 11 November 2019.
