Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.

This line was spoken by Martin Luther King Jr. in a sermon called “Loving Your Enemies,” delivered at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama (December 25, 1957).

Dr. King delivered this line in a powerful sermon on Christmas Day. He’d spent the last few weeks thinking about how to counteract hate with love. A

Joel Osteen had this to say about the topic today:

It’s ok to be angry, it’s just not ok to do something stupid when your’e angry. Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that. Find the hope that can anchor your soul and put an end to the cycle of disappointment, discouragement, and depression.

The way you see yourself is the way other people are going to see you. If you see yourself as attractive, talented, and blessed, people are going to see you that way. That’s what you’re going to send out. Quit putting yourself down. Quit letting those negative thoughts about you play.

When you criticize yourself, you are criticizing God’s creation. “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:27).

You have enough people and circumstances against you, so don’t be against yourself. When the negative comes up, do yourself a favour and delete it. Switch over to the right recording today. You’re not weak or disadvantaged. You are a mighty hero.

God has already given you what you need, not just to survive, but to thrive. Champions are molded by what’s in them, not what’s around them. Dream, desire, vision and attitude.

People judge you by what you finish, not by what you start. Keep on going, God is with you. Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase. If you can’t fly, run, if you can’t run, walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.

Your promises will never be reached without patience and perseverance. Stay on course. Have a transforming Tuesday. This is definitely a loving-your-enemies kind of quote, so you’ll probably hear it in that kind of context. Hey, just because someone is a jerk to you doesn’t mean you have to be a jerk right back.
