Thabong; Welkom: Five males suspected to be house robbers, were arrested by members of SAPS in Thabong; Welkom, following a tip-off on Thursday, 12 November 2020.

The information was based on a house robbery case that was reported earlier on in Thabong; 2010 Village, where a 41 year old woman and her son were attacked in their home while sleeping.

Upon receiving this information, a trap was set for robbers where an agent pretended to want to buy a TV. As the suspects arrived with a TV set in the agreed location they were pounced on by members in blue. An amplifier was found in one of the suspect’s house in Mxi Street, Thabong.

Subsequent to that, the two suspects led the members to the third suspect who led them to another address in the same vicinity where two more suspects were arrested and three cellphones confiscated.

Other members of SAPS such as Detectives and Local Criminal Record Centre, also played a role in this successful arrest of these five suspects, aged between 35 and 40 years.

The case is assigned to WO Bertus Olivier who will place the case before Welkom Magistrate’s Court today; 16 November 2020 on charges of possession of suspected stolen property and house robbery.

The Provincial Commissioner of Free State, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane lauded the members for their sterling performance.

“I also need to laud the community member who took and active part in assisting our members with information. I believe this case is going to assist us to crack down on house robbery syndicate as we suspect that there might be a syndicate operating in that area.” she concluded.
