Bethlehem: A total number of forty four (44) alleged illegal immigrants were arrested by members of Bethlehem SAPS. This followed a tip-off from concerned community members about a group of men playing soccer and others sitting in a house allegedly belonging to the Municipality near Pretorius Kloof in Bethlehem.
Upon their arrival, police found about 55 men with 44 of them coming from various African countries such as Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Malawi without proper/legal documents that allows them to be in South Africa.
It was later revealed that these men were brought in Bethlehem to install Wi-Fi Routers around Bethlehem suburbs by a certain company in Johannesburg. None of the suspects could say exactly who the contractor is.
Department of Labour was also engaged and Home Affairs department handled the matter to secure deportation of those illegal immigrants.
Remaining 11 were confirmed to be South Africans.
Free State Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane warned those who come into South Africa without proper documentation and says they will always face the full might of the law.
