Qwa-Qwa: The official funeral service of the late Morena E Moholo (Great King), Thokoana Mopeli was held on Thursday, 11 January 2018. Members of the royal family, friends, dignitaries and members of the community, welcomed the remains of the late King of Bakoena clan, at his royal house and the procession proceeded to Charles Mopeli Stadium, Qwaqwa.
Morena e Moholo; Thokoana Mopeli, was admitted at the 3 Military Hospital; Tempe; Mangaung, on the 06th December 2017. He succumbed to illness and passed-on, on the 2nd of January, 2018.
King Thokoana Mopeli played an important role in the developmental relationship that the Free State Provincial Government had with the institution of traditional leadership. He also maintained a good relationship between his people and government.
Speaking in the official opening of the funeral, Director General Mr Kopung Ralikontsane said that President Jacob Zuma had found it in his wisdom that our late Morena E Moholo Thokoana Mopeli should be bid farewell through a Special Provincial Official Funeral.
Those in attendance included MEC for Department of Agriculture and Rural; Oupa Khoabane, MEC For Department of Sport Arts and Recreation; Mme Mathabo Leeto, MEC For COGTA and Human Settlements; Mme Sisi Ntombela, Speaker of Free State Provincial Legislature; Mme Mamiki Qabathe, Maluti A Phofung Municipality Executive Mayor; Councillor Vusi Tshabalala; King Letsie 3 from Lesotho and Minister Msebenzi Zwane, amongst the many dignitaries.
Various Speakers from all walks of life continue to speak on the life and time of the late Morena E Moholo Thokoana Mopeli. This included as a selfless leader who had only the interests of his people at heart and his passion for education continues to inspire young people to work hard to achieve their life goals.
King Mopeli was laid to rest at a burial site in Thaba Bosiu, Qwaqwa.
