Thabong: The 21 year old Thabiso Dala, an International Junior Portuguese (IJP) gang member was sentenced to 10 years on Tuesday, 01 September 2020 in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court for the murder of Busa Sethathi (24).
On Saturday, 03 August 2019 police in Thabong police received a complaint of murder while performing crime prevention duties. At the scene they found the body of a male lying on the ground with stab wound on the back and neck. He was later identified as Busa Sethathi.
It was reported that prior to his death, Sethathi and his female cousin were attacked by three males, two of them were known by nicknames to the cousin and one was not known. It was further alleged that they robbed him of his property and cash and stabbed him with a sharp object and he succumbed to the wounds.
Three suspects were arrested the following day on Sunday, 04 August 2019 by members on Thabong Crime Prevention and Detective Warrant Officer Gerrie Nel. The case was assigned to Detective Warrant Officer Bertus Olivier who successfully placed the matter in court. Thabiso was sentenced after pleading guilty.
The two co accused were acquitted from the case as they could not be positively linked to the actual murder.
Free State Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane welcomed the conviction and sentencing of the accused. He further applauded the investigating team for ensuring that justice is taking its cause.
