Bloemfontein: Bloemfontein hosted the Engen Pitch and Polish leg of the annual competition on Saturday, 27 July 2019. The Pitch and Polish is an entrepreneurial workshop and platform given to business minds to pitch their ideas amongst the eyes of possible investors, business people.
The mentorship programme focuses on ending poverty by giving entrepreneurial knowledge to a variety of businesses around the country.
A further attraction is that, the success of Pitch and Polish format can be attributed in large measures to huge value it offers it’s audiences or work delegates. 40% of Delegates are people who return year after year, bringing along family and friends when they return to the next event.
Refilwe Matsaneng, Owner of GloLooks and 2017 winner of Engen Pitch and Polish Mentorship Programme, had this to say about the programme.
“I grew up mostly in Bloemfontein. I completed my schooling here and completed a B Com in Economics degree. This was followed by receiving my Honours in Business Management and now I’m finishing my Masters in Enterpreneurship,”
“I wanted to keep my hair in its natural form but the products available just did not suit me. This is how GloLooks was born, I make make my hair products using Botanical and Natural ingredients. The hair products are intentionally hand made with the purpose of creating jobs,”
“What made the development of my product grow is the fact that I’m my own target market. This made it easy to find out what worked and did not. As a Pitch and Polish competition winner, I can tell you that people from all backgrounds, businesses and backgrounds, participated. There is no discrimination and it’s a very safe space. Even when you make a mistake, you are guided in a way that does not shut you down but builds you up,”
“I have now opened a studio and we are in talks with retail stores in hopes of getting our products out there, we have approached tow retail stores and negotiations are currently in the process.”concluded Refilwe.
The Best selling Author, international speaker and TV Talk-show host, Justin Cohen, believes in Localizing the brand and making people fall in love with their lifestyle despite the fact that they have attained most of their goals if not less.
Kedibone Tsiloane was the winner from the Bloemfontein leg 2019. She is a young woman passionate about cleaning the Free State by recycling plastic and making bricks out of it.

The Pitch and Polish workshop travels around the country including small towns, where other mentorship programmes never go. Round two of the semifinals and finals will be held in Johannesburg.
