Vanderbijlpark: The Vaal University of Technology, Vanderbijlpark Campus, has yesterday (11 September 2018) awarded MEC Makgoe with an Honorary Doctorate in the field of Human Sciences.
MEC Makgoe, an alumni of the university, having attained a National Diploma in Chemical Engineering, is also honoured for his selfless role in the use of human and capacity development to transform the lives of the people.
In his role as a public representative, having served as a Member of the Executive Council since 1994, MEC Makgoe has used his skills, passions and abilities to bring fundamental developments to the community. In his role as MEC for Education, he has worked with all stakeholders to ensure that the Free State is a force to be reckoned with in the area of education.
The Premier of the Free State, Hon. Sefora ‘Sisi’ Ntombela, saluted and congratulated the Free State Member of the Executive Council responsible for education, Hon. Tate Makgoe, on his deserved conferment of an Honorary Doctorate by the Vaal University of Technology.
“We honour MEC Makgoe on his sterling achievement. Through this conferment of an Honorary Doctorate, MEC Makgoe has made the Free State Provincial Government and the people of the Free State very proud.
“We are more than convinced that his awarding of a PhD was well deserved. On behalf of the people of the Free State, I would like to congratulate MEC Makgoe on his deserved honour. We are proud of him, and his conferment is yet another confirmation that the Free State is a province of champions. Halala MEC Tate Halala!.” said Premier Ntombela.
In accepting the award, MEC Makgoe said; “I am honoured and humbled to accept the honorary doctoral degree from the Vaal University of Technology. The journey towards Radical Socio-Economic Transformation has been a long one, and VUT is part of it. Thank you for the honour, and thank you for making me one of your own.”
