Bloemfontein: Three people have died and eight injured following a multi- vehicle crush along the N1road, about 60km from Kroonstad to Koppies yesterday, 02 February 2021.
In the first accident: A truck collided with a light motor vehicle and run over it. The accident happened yesterday at around 12:30pm and left two people dead.
In the second incident: It is reported that about an hour later, a secondary accident took place at the same scene. It is alleged that an over speeding truck from the direction of Kroonstad run over traffic vehicle with blue lights on and also the South African Police Service (SAPS) vehicle, a tow truck, two vehicles from fire brigade and a truck that was on the accident scene.
One person died from this accident and five people sustained minor injuries and three people survived with moderate injuries.
The accidents comes on the back of the warning from the Department of Police, Roads and Police (DPRT) in the Free State urging road users to exercise extra caution when driving in rainy weather conditions in the province.
The Department would like to reiterate its call to motorists to be extra careful when driving on provincial and national roads in the Free State during the adverse weather conditions the province is experiencing. They should continuously adjust their driving habits to suit the weather conditions.
“We further urge motorists to continue to obey road rules at all times.” said the Free State Department of Police, Roads and Transport.
