Never stop trying and stay focused.
There are five important things for living a successful and fulfilling life: never stop dreaming, never stop believing, never give up, never stop trying, and never stop learning.
I came across this powerful article that was published in 2017 and thought I should share it with you:
I woke up feeling absolutely defeated and drained. I felt like throwing it all out of the window and just remain beneath the sheets for just a few days or a few months or few years, I really did not care. I felt like all my efforts that I had made up to this moment were all in vain, I felt like giving up.
If I am still drunk today would have been one of those days I would have taken whiskey on the rocks and watched Ned Stark’s (or Derek Shepard’s) death over and over again. I may not remember it, but I must have had an extremely bad depressing dream for me to wake up feeling like that.
This was neither a foreign feeling to me nor was I the first person to experience such feelings. I know a few people who would have echoed my sentiments and I am certain they are thousands if not millions who feel like giving up or like their efforts are in vain, at this very moment.
If you’re one of those people, there is only one thing I could say to you, the one thing I repeat to myself in such moments:
Never give up, if you do, that would be the worst mistake you can make. Keep trying and keep pushing and keep struggling, even if at the moment you don’t know what your goal is or why you would want to achieve it.
Do you see that little light at the end of the tunnel? The one that is so far out you can barely see it? Don’t stop until you reach it. Still can’t see it? That’s okay that just means you will have to dig until you create one for yourself. So take out your shovel and get to work.
You can’t give up when you face your first or second or third or even the fourth hurdle. Thomas Edison once said:
“I have not failed. I have just failed 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
In comparison to him, I still have a long way to go, I have only tried less than a 100 ways. That means that I have over 9000 options I can still take, one which may still work for me to achieve my goals. And that’s all you need. You just need to find that one way that will work and validate all your hard work. So Keep pushing.
Several years ago, there was a woman who wouldn’t give up. She produced her finest work during a period in her life that she herself describes as the ‘darkest period in her life’. People tried to bring her down but she wouldn’t have it, she kept on trying until she turned her ‘no’ into ‘yes’. That woman is JK Rowling, author of theHarry Potter sequel. And if she can do it,so can you.
We are all born with the instinct not to give up. As babies, we keep trying until we get what we want- what we deserve. Even when people laughed at us, we still kept trying, we never listened to them, and we kept pushing. But somewhere along the line we lose that ability.
The world and its people told us, that we were not capable of achieving our goals. They told us our ideas were impossible and crazy and somewhere along the way, we started to believe them, until we lost the ability to believe in ourselves.
There is one question I like to ask myself every single time I feel like giving up. ‘If I do give up now and do start coasting, what will happen next?
Most likely, I will just sit there and wait for whatever life has to throw at me. That means I will become reactive or responsiveto whatever happens in life. I hate being reactive, I do not like external circumstances controlling my emotions and state of life, I like to create. I prefer to be creative. I prefer to dictate my own results.
The other option would be to start all over and do something else, attempt the impossible all over again. But if it gets hard, and it will, won’t I just give up again?
When speaking about his life Steve jobs, co-founder of Apple, once dispensed this valuable advice:
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.”
That is true. You can’t look into the future and see how things turn out, but you canbelieve that you’re creating a bright future and therefore you need to trust yourself. You need to trust that you’re doing the right things to get to where you want to be.
Become a student of life and learn from others, learn from the people you want to become like. Learn from everything and use those lessons that life gives you to make better decisions in order to push through whatever hurdles you’re facing, you owe it to yourself. You owe it to yourself to not give up.
Keep pushing and scraping and clawing and begging. Even in your dreams, don’t give up. Eventually, all your determination will pay off, you have to believe that, no one else will do it for you. Take a little rest if you have to- Then keep doing what you do, but even harder.
And when you finally reach the stage of success, congratulate yourself. But remember that that is not the end and there is more to do, more to achieve, more that life has in store for you. So, never stop trying! Keep pushing. – Chomwa Shikati. Nov 18, 2017.
If I don’t succeed, I will try again and never stop trying. When I succeed, I will again explore new opportunities. I am not going to stop when i’m exhausted, I only stop when I am done.
It is that magical, frightening moment, that we need to pinpoint. Recognise it and then move past it. That moment, when everything inside, when everyone around you, says to quit, to give up, you can’t do this, that’s the moment you must stand up, you must dig deep within yourself, and make it happen.
