Anthony Robbins once said: “We live in a time when new ideas, movements and concepts change the world daily. If there is anything that characterizes the modern world, it is the massive, almost unimaginable, flow of information and therefore of change”. This words take me back to my days when I was an aspirant journalist and worked on different publications in the Goldfields area. Times were tough and after numerous attempts on different projects as well as not getting the ideal opportunities, I ended up succumbing to the pressure of leaving the one career I was passionate about.

As early as the beginning of this year, I started pondering on ideas of going back to my roots, if I can say so. And during that time, we (my team and I) ended on agreeing on establishing an online publication. One of many reasons, was on trying to change the mindset of not having enough media opportunities in the Free State Province and thus, would like to make a change. The launch of Fs News Online will aim to make a huge difference in how we perceive the media industry in the Province and how can we entice our own people not to leave the province but to make contributions that will make Free State compete on equal footing, if more, with other Provinces in South Africa. Research has shown that most Companies collapse in the first year of operating because of lack of marketing and advertising. We aim to make this platform available to Free State citizens to use for their marketing and advertising initiatives so that they get the exposure and brand awareness that they need.

This can only be achieved through support (from everyone), encouragements, constructive criticism, sharing of our indigenous stories, encompassing different cultures, sharing ideas and so on. I am under no illusion, however, that the processing of achieving this will be plain sailing as a lot of work still needs to be done. I am very clear that who you know, how you know, where you go and what you own are not true measures of personal success. To me, success is the ongoing process of striving to become more. The road to success is always under construction. It is a progressive course not an end to be reached. The difference between people who succeed and those who fail is not what they have rather it is what they choose to see and do with their resources and their experience of life.
