Mangaung: A police detective in Mangaung managed to secure the conviction of Lekgetho Emmanuel Mareka (26) and Joseph Teboho Tsubella (27). The sentence was passed on Monday 2018 September 17, by Bloemfontein magistrate court after the pair were found guilty for attempted murder.
Mareka was sentenced to ten years imprisonment for attempted murder while Tsubella was sentenced to five years imprisonment for assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
On Sunday 02 April 2017, early in the morning, the victim; Lehlohonolo Lucky Mokalakala (17), was walking home with his friend after they took one of his friends halfway to Batho location. His friend entered his parental home while the victim proceeded to his home.
On the way in Mathambo Street; Bochabela, Mokalakala was accosted by six boys and one girl. The girl asked the victim to lend her matches. The victim told her he did not have any.
The accused attacked the victim with empty bottles, stones and knife and left him there. He managed to go home and went to sleep. In the morning his father saw blood and decided to follow its trail. On arrival he found the victim badly injured. He took him to the hospital and then opened a case.
The case of attempted murder was registered at Mangaung for investigation. The pair were arrested after various statements were taken following the incident.
