Ventersburg: Police intercepted a truck loading 30 boxes of Khat leaves and arrested a male driver and his two female passengers on Wednesday, 12 February 2020 on N1 South bound.
A Crime intelligence led information was followed up which led to mobilization of Ventersburg SAPS Crime Prevention, Kroonstad K9 and Free State Provincial Traffic Department who managed to stop the suspicious white Hino truck.
The boxes were discovered at the back of the truck. The driver could only explain that the load was transported from Johannesburg to Cape Town. He was then arrested together with two females aged 46 and 36 years old respectively for possession of drugs.
The leaves believed to be Khat drugs, were weighed and found to be weighing 214. 942 kg with an estimated street value of about R214 000. The truck was also confiscated for being used in the commission of a crime.
The three will be charged and have appeared in the Ventersburg Magistrate’s Court today; Friday, 14 February 2020.
The case will be investigated further by the HAWKS.
