Namahadi; Qwa Qwa: On the 18 April 2020, members of the community informed police at Phuthaditjhaba of five (5) SAPS members; based at Namahadi police station, were busy drinking liquor at a tavern whilst on duty.
The back up was called to the scene and the SAPS members fled the scene upon seeing the approach of their fellow colleagues.
Fortunately, the tavern owner(44) was arrested for failing to comply with the act. All liquor was seized and business closed.
On the 19 April 2020, the shift D SAPS members of Namahadi, came to work. Four were arrested on duty and the fifth member booked off sick; was arrested at her home, including a police reservist.
“The police officials will be charged with defeating the ends of justice and failing to enforce and adhere to the National Disaster Management Regulations.” the SAPS said.
All these SAPS members were arrested by Phuthaditjhaba Tactical Response Team inside Community Service Centre and the other two, at their homes.
The six Police officials suspects will be charged departmentally as well as criminally, except the tavern owner.
The Phuthaditjhaba Cluster Commander, Major General Peter Moloi formed part of the arrest during the unfolding of the processes and he was glad of the steps taken against the members. He previously warned members within the cluster, not to work against the state in this difficult times where they needed to comply and abide by the law.
