Welkom: According to the Road Traffic Management Corporation report of 2019 the Free State province boasts the safest roads in the land and Hon. Premier Sisi Ntombela has attributed this to the concerted efforts and visionary leadership provided by the province’s Executive Council (EXCO).
As part of broader strategic programme of the province, today the Premier together with Police, Roads and Transport MEC Sam Mashinini, have embarked on a Road safety campaign aimed at promoting safe and responsible road usage by residents of the province, people coming from other provinces and tourists from outside the borders of our beautiful country.
The Premier handed over 50 traffic vehicles as part of ensuring the successful implementation of Operation Karabelo with the cardinal purpose of ensuring the safety of our people. At the centre of the programme was to ensure law and order on roads and curbing loss of life. The vehicles have been distributed across all districts of the Free State province.
The Premier said that Free State province has set itself very high standards and that means we have all agreed to work extra hard to realise accident free roads in the province. Unfortunately, since the beginning of the festive season, the province has had road accidents which have claimed the lives of people.
She then appealed to all road users to exercise caution and patience on the roads, particularly during this rainy and wet period.
“It gives me great joy to announce that we will be giving (number) of traffic vehicles to the municipality. During our visit in February, we made a commitment that we would get more vehicles for our traffic officials to enable them to better execute their official duties and most importantly, to keep us safe on the road.” said Premier Ntombela.
