Odendaalsrus: Welkom K9 Unit members were called to Welgegund Farm in Odendaalsrus, after the farmer Mr Louis Oosthuizen discovered that his sheep were missing and the kraal fence was cut.
On the 13th August 2019, Mr Oosthuizen discovered that 147 sheep were missing from the kraal. He followed tracks from the kraal that led to the recovery of 1 sheep few meters and called the police.
Odendaalsrus Rural Safety Coordinator; Sergeant Rudy Harmaan, responded to the complaint with members of Welkom K9 Unit, Warrant Officer Michael Stevens, Warrant Officer Kobus Harding and Warrant Officer Anton Mynhardt.
This members continued tracking for about 37 kilometers on foot and all the sheep were recovered scattered in the bushes near Alma Power Station.
No one was arrested but all 147 sheep worth R249 000.00 were recovered. The owner identified his sheep with his brand mark. The case of attempted stock theft was registered and suspects are still at large.
The sheep were released back to the owner.
