Welkom: The police in Welkom received a complaint of mob justice in Phomolong Village, Welkom. One of the six suspects was arrested after information was provided.

On Friday, 25 January 2019, it is alleged that the deceased had assaulted his wife at their residential place after they came from a tavern. The wife left to her parents home, which is not far from her house. She was interviewed on her way, by a group of approximately 6 men alleged to have been drinking at the tavern the couple visited.

The group then went to the deceased’s house and knocked at the door repeatedly, started kicking and forcing entry when they did not get any response. The corrugated sheets were forced open and the door was broken open as well.

Then the group of men entered and dragged the victim from his house to the street where he was assaulted and he sustained multiple stab wounds on his body. The incident was reported to Welkom Police and on arrival, Warrant Officer Sello Mmolaoa found a man lying in a pool of blood.

The case of murder was registered at Welkom Police Station. Police followed every leads regarding the suspect and a 37 year old man from Phomolong Village was arrested.

The suspect, Mr Bafana Nyamane appeared in the Welkom Magistrate Court on Monday, the 28 January 2019 and the case was postponed to the 04th February 2019 for bail application.
