Bethlehem: Bethlehem Cluster Commander Maj Gen Jan Tsotetsi would like to condemn a barbaric mob justice incident which claimed the life of a man. A man whose personal details are still being verified, was assaulted and killed during an alleged mob justice incident in Bohlokong on Monday; 21 January 2019.
It is alleged that the victim was caught by an angry crowd after being accused of stealing at a house in Roman Street – Old Location. He was assaulted and left wounded before being rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, 22 January 2019.
“We are investigating circumstances surrounding the murder. This includes identifying the person(s) responsible for this crime. Anyone who is linked shall be arrested. We appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident to provide information. His/her identity will be kept confidential and they will be rewarded. Nothing justifies taking a life for a pair of shoes the victim is alleged to have stolen. If there was any evidence against him, he should have been handed over to the police and the courts. Any other form of justice outside what is already catered for will not be accepted.” said Major General Jan Tsotetsi, who was angered by the murder.
