Hoopstad: The intervention of Free State SAPS under the leadership of Lt. Gen. Lebeoana Tsumane, Executive Mayor of Tswelopele Municipality, Hoopstad CPF and Hoopstad Station Commander, Captain Lettie van Eeden and her team, led to gang members in Tikwana to make peace and handed their dangerous weapons. There soccer, chess and marathons were played to keep teenagers together.
On the 1 December 2017, different stakeholders like Free State SAPS, Hoopstad SAPS, the Executive Mayor of Tswelopele Municipality; Councillor Koiyoko Matsholo, CPF and Social Crime Prevention of Welkom Cluster, gathered at Tikwana Stadium. There was a problem of gang fights that occurred recently and the intervention was organized.
All gang members were called to make peace among themselves and then voluntarily, they decided to hand over their dangerous weapons to the Police and the Executive Mayor. Yes indeed, dangerous weapons were handed over and one of the gangster confessed that, they want to live in peace as they are brothers who grew together in Tikwana.
Sergeant Maritsa Baadjies opened the event with a powerful prayer. The Executive Mayor, Councillor Matsholo welcomed everyone who attended. Captain Teboho Matasane rendered the purpose of the event, which was: Sports Against Gangsterism. Captain Limakatso Qakoshe introduced all guests who were in attendance.
On the 3 December 2017, there will be a church service at Relekile Secondary School in Tikwana at 10:00, where there will a prayer by the community and that there must be a lasting peace among gangsters.
