Welkom: Members of the SAPS were applauded by the elderly during a house to house visit organised by the Minister of Social Development; Honourable Lindiwe Zulu, Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng; Nkosinjani Speelman and MEC; Mamiki Qabathe, as part of giving back to the community on Tuesday; 17 December 2019 at Lemotso Primary School in Thabong.

SAPS members went in numbers to support the initiative and offer their service by ensuring safety during the event. Thabong SAPS members and Welkom Public Order Policing members moved from different houses where elders over 100 years, were given gift hampers for the festive season .

In her keynote address, Honourable Lindiwe Zulu encouraged senior citizens to go to old age homes for safety purposes. She also gave a lecture about different forms of abuse as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children.

She highlighted the importance of the lecture as senior citizens are also victims of abuse. Moreover encouraged elders to report such cases to the police.

She further applauded the police for the good service by ensuring safety for the elderly and working hard to make the street a safer place.

In her conclusion , the 101 year old Me. Malina Thwathwa, commended police officers for the job they do.

“We know how difficult and dangerous your job is, however, we are grateful for the effort you put. Your dedication and hard work in ensuring our safety, is appreciated.” said Me Thwathwa.
