Bloemfontein: The Free State Provincial Government (FSPG) is reeling from the shocking news of the passing of the former Provincial Accountant General, Anna Fourie yesterday, 11 May 2020.

Ms. Fourie, who turned 62 on Thursday, 07 May 2020, passed away at her home in Bloemfontein yesterday morning after a short illness. Fourie dedicated her adult life to public service, after joining government in 1979 and spending nearly four decades at the Provincial Treasury.

After a long lengthy period in the public sector, Ms. Fourie finally resigned from government in 2018, having worked 39 years for the Provincial Treasury. She steadily rose through the ranks and in 2001, she became the first Provincial Accountant General (PAG) of the Free State Provincial Government.

The Director-General of the Free State Provincial Government, Kopung Ralikontsane described Fourie as a dedicated individual who always strived for perfection, adding that he was distraught to learn about Ms. Fourie’ sudden death.

“I have known Anna for many years and what struck me the most about her is her dedication to her job. She understood what it meant to be a public servant and she did her job with absolute diligence. Her work ethic rubbed off on those who were priviledged enough to work with her. I am shocked and sad to learn that she has passed away. We send our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends:” said Ralikontsane.

The Premier of the Free State, Sisi Ntombela said Fourie was a model professional who understood that service to the people was everyone’s responsibility. “She took pride in her work and always encouraged all of us to work together.” said the Premier.
