Welkom: A girl child was walking alone and was attacked by two street robbers who took her school bag. An off-duty Police officer and a Police Detective saw the incident and arrested these robbers. The school bag was handed back to the school learner.

On the 24 January 2019, a 14 year old girl was walking alone in Koppie Allen road; in Reitzpark; Welkom from school, when she was attacked by two men with knives.

The child fled from them and dropped her school bag containing a blue Cellphone valued at R900 and one of the suspects, picked up and walked away with it.

The child alerted residents about the robbery and two Police Officers saw the incident and also gave chase to the two suspects until they were arrested. The members were passing by and assisted residents to arrest these street robbers. The school bag was found in their possession and handed back to the school learner.

The two were arrested for robbery. These street robbers aged 19 and 21 years old, appeared on the 28 January 2019 in the Welkom Magistrate Court.

Police members who assisted with the arrests were; Constable Letjhesa Khaile of Welkom SAPS who was off-duty and Detective Constable Martin Machesa of Economic Stimulus Task Team.
