Bloemfontein: A brace from Peter Shalulile handed Mamelodi Sundowns a comfortable 2-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Wednesday night.
The victory for the Brazilians also sets a new PSL record as the only team to go unbeaten away from home in a league season.
Sundowns controlled the flow of play from the onset and took the lead as early as the 11th minute. A shot from Haashim Domingo was parried into a dangerous area where Peter Shalulile was on hand to knock the loose ball home from close range, 1-0.
Two minutes later the champions almost doubled their lead when a fine run from Gaston Sirino saw him into space on the edge of the box, but his stinging shot was brilliantly saved by Mondli Mpoto.
Celtic created their first real chance of the match in the 16th minute, but Kennedy Mweene was on hand with a fine save to turn a 22-yard free-kick from Neo Maema around the post.
The Brazilians keeper was called into action again on the half hour mark, this time with an acrobatic save to deny Harris Tchilimbou from the edge of the box.
Sundowns dominated the rest of the half, but failed to add to their lead as they entered the halftime tunnel leading by a solitary goal.
It was more of the same from the Brazilians in the second half and the rightfully doubled their lead in the 66th minute when Shalulile superbly headered home a cross from Lyle Lakay, 2-0.
Sundowns took their foot off the pedal after that and cruised to what is their 18th win of the league season.
The result for Celtic, on the other hand, ends their chances of finishing inside the top eight.
