Harrismith: 27-year-old suspect from Intabazwe-Harrismith was arrested with an unlicensed firearm following intelligent gathered information.
On the 09 December 2019, Tactical Response Team acted on Crime intelligence driven information to Harrismith and pounced on the suspect at Intabazwe. SAPS members found an unlicensed firearm and magazine with no bullets. They also found a police reflector jacket.
The suspect will appear before the Harrismith Magistrate court on Wednesday, 11 December 2019 facing charges of possession of unlicenced firearm and suspected stolen property.
“Let’s not dwell into wrong perceptions that police are doing nothing when given information with regard to people in possession of unlicenced firearms. This is the fourth firearm seized in space of two days through police actions and community information. Together we can squeeze the space for criminals and live in a safe and secure environment for all. We urge people who are willing to handover illegal firearms to approach their local police stations as part of Firearm Amnesty.” said the Phuthaditjhaba Cluster Commander, Major General Peter Moloi.
