Trompsburg: It is alleged that the 14 year old girl was at Trompsburg N1 hitch-hiking spot on the 13 September 2020 when a White Hyundai Combi with red registration plates stopped and offered a lift. The Combi driver (suspect) was travelling to Bloemfontein and the victim was travelling home to Edenburg.
The suspect when passing Edenburg failed to stop and to a hospital in Bloemfontein, then returned back and again drove past Edenburg to Trompsburg. He then drove to a house in Trompsburg town where he allegedly raped the minor victim and thereafter let her go. She immediately went to the police to report this ordeal.
The police managed to trace the vehicle and the suspect was arrested same day.
The 38 year old suspect was arrested at his place of residence after confirmation that he was the driver of the Hyundai Combi that belongs to the Albert Nzula Hospital in Trompsburg.
He briefly appeared before Trompsburg Magistrates Court on Monday 14 September 2020 and will appear again at the same Court for bail application on the 17 September 2020.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane wishes to sensitize hitch- hikers to rather use official public transport and when circumstances forces them to hitchhike, they should take registration numbers, colour and made of the vehicle and send to the next of kin, so it can be easy to follow up in case they don’t reach your destination.
