Viljoensdrift: SAPS Members who were on duty on the R59 road, noticed a vehicle parked alongside the road. The vehicle was approached and a request was made to search the vehicle. During the search, cigarettes were found hidden in a black bag.

The suspect attempted to bribe the police member with R1 800.00. He was arrested on the spot.

About 2 470 boxes of cigarettes with an estimated value of about R20 000.00, were confiscated by the police.

The 40 year-old male suspect was arrested for possession of suspected illicit cigarettes and bribery. The arrested suspect is set to appear in the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday; 28 July 2021.

In another incident in Harrismith; a taxi driver was arrested at a roadblock on the N3 Durban bound. He was charged with possession of illicit cigarettes.

The taxi was stopped and searched. A box containing cigarettes was found. Cigarettes valued at about R12 500.00, were confiscated.

The suspect will appear in the Harrismith Magistrate’s Court today, Tuesday; 27 July 2021.
