Botshabelo: During Thursday morning; 21 April 2022, the Welkom Public Order Police Reaction Team followed information on suspects involved in a housebreaking and theft case that happened in M-Section Botshabelo.

The members arrived at the identified address in W-Section and gained access tactically into the premises. The wanted 31-year-old suspect was found hiding in the bedroom.

The suspect voluntarily led the team to an open field where he had hidden the stolen safe. The police seized the safe and the big grinder that was used to cut it open. Two airguns and six identity documents were recovered with the safe which was stolen during the housebreaking.

The suspect also informed the police that he disposed of two other airguns by throwing them into a pit toilet.

Further information led the team to the address in M-Section where another suspect (52), was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Various firearms and ammunition was seized.

A White Nissan NP300 believed to have been used during the housebreaking was also confiscated as well as Silver set of handcuffs.

The last suspect to be arrested was a security guard who is alleged to be the accomplice of the housebreaking and theft case being investigated.

The 42-year-old suspect from L-Section is alleged to have staged a reported hijacking against himself with the other suspects and handed the security company firearm to them.

He was also found in possession of ammunition illegally. Six different cellular telephones were also confiscated from him for further investigation.

Cases for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition were opened at Botshabelo Police Station. The arrested suspects were detained in police custody for housebreaking and theft as well as the other cases.

They will appear in the Botshabelo Magistrate Court on Monday; 25 April 2022.
