Phuthaditjhaba: A case of culpable homicide is being investigated after an accident that claimed lives of four people in Vrede and two in Harrismith.

Vrede: It is alleged that on Saturday, 09 February 2019 at about 16:40 the truck was driving on R34 road from the direction of Memel towards Vrede. The truck driver, who was admitted at the hospital, said he was driving downhill when he noticed a car coming from behind wanting to overtake him.

He said, suddenly the driver overtook and collided head-on with an oncoming car from an opposite direction. The truck driver said that he tried to avoid the accident between two cars to happen, but ended up turned upside down on the side of the road. Both cars caught fire on impact.

The driver form the other vehicle died on the scene after he was taken out by Jaws of Life, but the occupants of the other vehicle, burned beyond recognition. It was two adults on the front seat and a child at the back. The identity of the deceased is unknown yet.

Harrismith: The accident happened on the early hours of Sunday, 10 February 2019 at 00:20 on the R702 just 4km to Harrismith. It is reported that a red BMW with registration numbers of Gauteng overturned and two people lost their lives on the scene and the other passenger was taken to hospital.

The cause of this accident is still unknown but investigations continue. Police are looking for the family of the deceased.
