Virginia: Pule Marasi (38) and Dimakatso Matsabu (31), appeared briefly in the Virginia Magistrate court on 30 September 2020 for murder. The case against the duo was postponed to Tuesday; 06 October 2020 for investigation.
The three suspects are accused of the death of 38 year old; Osondo Sylvanus Enwerem, a Nigerian National who was reported missing by her girlfriend on 27 August 2020.
It is alleged that Enwerem went to Sloja in Meloding to meet up with his regular female client Matsabu. On arrival, Enwerem found Matsabu together with two other males. A quarrel ensued between Enwerem and the two males.
They allegedly assaulted and killed Enwerem, wrapped his body with a curtain and drove to Hennenman in his black Kia Picanto where they bought petrol at one of the filling stations.
It is further alleged that the suspects drove to a railway line between Kroonstad and Hennenman where they burnt Enwerem’s body before fleeing the scene in his Kia Picanto. They also stole items from the deceased’s car before abandoning it at one of the hostels in Meloding.
On Tuesday; 08 September 2020, Enwerem’s body was seen by a passing train driver. He alerted the railway security who in turn summoned the Hennenman police.
A case of murder was registered for further investigation.
Welkom Public Order Police (POP) member followed up intelligence driven information which led to the arrest of the two suspects on Sunday 27 September 2020. During the investigation items stolen from the deceased car were recovered at one of the suspect’s house.
Malehola Marasi (59) one of the suspect’s mother who was found at the premises was arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property. She appeared at the Virginia Magistrate Court on 01 October 2020 and released on warning to appear again on the 14 October 2020.
